Job Title: Computer Technician
Campus Location: Walters State Community College (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to serve as the front-line support for all technology needs across the campus. Engages all institutional stakeholders and provides quality support to ensure that faculty and employees meet the needs of the institution’s students. The position is responsible for a wide variety of software, computer operating systems, printers, computer hardware, mobile devices, and emerging technologies. Travels to multiple campuses in order to address any technology problems as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
Maintains, troubleshoots, and installs all computer equipment for staff and students such as printers, laptops, desktops, tablets, Apple TV, audio/video, and multimedia equipment.
Provides assistance to staff and students in resolving technology issues with emphasis on Walters State systems, procedures, and websites.
Installs various software programs on all campuses for desktop, laptop, or tablet computers using software deployment tools and mobile device management software.
Installs and tests lab, staff, and faculty software images for office and lab environments, including specialized software required by staff and faculty.
Assists the Help Desk call center providing technical support by phone, email, and in person.
May perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s or Technical College diploma in a technology related field. Career experience may be considered in lieu of degree or diploma.
At least one year of career experience in a highly related position.
A good fundamental base in troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking problems.
Experience in handling a high volume of end-users.
Preferred Qualifications
Any specialized certification in Information Technology or Computer Science.

The incumbent has no authority or responsibility for the responsibility of others, project direction, and/or program administration.
Most tasks are performed without consulting others, though resources, policies, or a supervisor are available as needed. Work is checked largely towards the progress towards the completion of objectives.
Environment & Working Conditions: Working conditions in the office are clean and well-lit; limited interruptions and occasional high noise level. Possible overuse injury could occur from keyboard usage. Travel to other campus locations could mean exposure to extreme heat, cold, or humidity.

Moves about campuses to trouble shoot with end-users.
Repetitive stress injuries could occur.
